He is an authority on tenancy financial issues, lease features, facilities and technicalities, and the art of tenancy negotiation. With a relentless passion for excellence and client advocacy, Ian brings a "bricks and mortar" practical approach to every client file. His wealth of solid business experience as a multi-unit retail tenant, commercial landlord, and realty lease consultant for over 35 years means he knows firsthand how challenging premise lease negotiations can be.
Ian holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) from the University of Guelph, and a Real Estate Broker's License through the Ontario College of Real Estate. He has selected hundreds of locations and has drafted and negotiated thousands of leases. His clients include medical professionals and national chain retail clients. He has completed negotiations in 16 states and 8 provinces with a specific emphasis on the Greater Toronto Area.
Ian has published over 95 articles and presented many seminars to professional healthcare and national retail tenant groups.
Mr. Toms earns each client's trust and respect with a quiet, self-confident and non-confrontational approach. As a result of his tenacity and reputation in the industry for not "backing down", he is frequently called upon to provide expert testimony in litigation, mediation and arbitration proceedings.
Outside of the office Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and children, gardening, cycling, swimming, canoe tripping, and teaching yoga as a volunteer at the YMCA.
Jennifer Madgett has several years of comprehensive experience negotiating and administering lease term renewals/extensions, offer to lease/lease agreements, lease assignments and lease reviews. She has substantial customer service and business administration experience and her commitment, dedication and transparency help to provide clarity and understanding of complex commercial lease agreements to clients. Her efficient, realistic and practical approach helps provide open lines of communication between tenants and landlords to maintain a positive relationship.
Jennifer is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada having obtained her P1 Paralegal License after completing the dual diploma Paralegal/Law Clerk program at Fleming College. She is also a licensed Real Estate Broker through the Ontario Real Estate College and has completed additional courses in the areas of Negotiation, Difficult Conversations, and Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Outside of the office, Jennifer enjoys time with her family RVing throughout beautiful Ontario and travelling to sunny destinations.
As our office manager, Rena excels in overseeing organisation, administrative tasks, and accounting processes, which allows us to deliver exceptional service to our clients.
Before joining the firm, Rena served as the administrative manager at a bustling boutique real estate office in Toronto/Mississauga for over eight years, where she supervised more than 20 full-time realtors. With over 20 years of experience in office administration and non-profit sector, she has honed remarkable administration, prioritisation, and organisation skills. Rena holds a legal administrative assistance diploma and is currently a part-time student at the University of Toronto pursuing her CPA designation.
Rena loves exploring the world, immersing herself in new cultures, and taking private cooking classes during her travels.
